Townsville or..

There really isn't much to write about today. When we left the campingsite at around 9.30 am., we thought we only had a short road trip of about 300 kilometers a head of us. Unfortunately both "Big4" campingsites in Townsville were occupied, so we decided to move on to "Rollingstones" (It sound of a lot more than it is) 4 houses and a hotel.... but they were free!

We didn't arrive until 4 o'clock pm.. Luckily it is in the right direction (towards Cairns), so we didn't waste our time! Now we have about 300 kilometers, to the place where we have to deliver the autocamper on thursday.

Actually the site is not to bad. There are no shopping facilities, so we had to drive to get dinner. We decided on the hotel in "Rollingstones". It took a long time to get the food ( which in return, wasn't very good). The road to the camping site is a long twisted road, through one of the many sugar cane fields in northern Australia. We have driven through endless fields of these tall canes.

While we were having dinner at the hotel, we got to talk to one of the locals. (an "old" mann at about 60 years old.....) It turned out that he owned several of the plantations in the area. He could tell us, that the sugarcanes actually grows for 15 month, before they are gathered. Afterwards they are chopped into little peaces and the juice is pressed and boiled. What is left is sugar. The fields, unfortunately consists of other things than canes. while we were driving back from the hotel, we saw lots of toads and snakes.

Unfortunately the weather is not so good. It has rained most of the day and it doesn't seem to get better before tuesday (bad luck!) But allright!.. The area needs the water. All the rivers we have passed are pretty much dried out, in generel they need water most places in Australia.

The pool in Rollingstones

We will stay here until monday and we hope, we can get to do some of the thing, we still need to do. Among other things.:

Crocodile safari, a manns fishingtrip (Nicolaj and dad) and I believe Natasja isn't quite done shopping yet. (I wonder if she ever will be?)

In generel we have been going for "Big4" sites. Most of them has 4 stars down here. Very nice and the cleaning are good!
